Julia Federing is a queer filmmaker, visual artist, and essayist from the suburbs of Maryland/Washington D.C., where passersby discussed politics as casually as they discussed the weather. Their personal works gravitate towards the archival and the historical, most notably in their thesis film “i will grow old, and what will i remember?” which premiered as an Official Selection at the Marina del Rey film festival in June 2024. She also has experience in film development, exhibition/curation, and project management with additional experience in producing and lighting design for student narrative films.

Julia currently attends Emerson College’s Los Angeles program with a major in Media Arts Production and a minor in Sociology/Anthropology; she’s working as a General Management Intern for Partizan Entertainment as part of the program. Julia participated in the American Pavilion internship program at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and has contributed to the music blog Of Note Mag as a concert photographer and journalist. They’re also a published essayist on the symbolic use of “cross-dressing” as a narrative device throughout the history of Western storytelling.

Julia aspires to become a producer at a larger-scale independent production company, collaborating to create projects off the beaten path that are as dynamic as they are groundbreaking. She is currently seeking Executive Assistant or Development Assistant roles. She loves all things American gothic, mosaic storytelling, and avant-garde documentaries.
